Cherish Natural Resources, Protect Beautiful China — Earth Day Science Campaign of Qinling Zhongnanshan Global Geopark Lights Up Campus

       On April 22, the 57th Earth Day, Qinling Zhongnanshan Global Geopark joined forces with 40 other global geoparks across China to launch the Earth Day & 7th Asia-Pacific Geoparks Week series under the theme “Cherish Natural Resources, Protect Beautiful China.” The event kicked off at Chang’an No. 3 Primary School in Xi’an.

        Featuring sister geopark interactive exhibitions, the initiative included a short video contest, a photo-and-text contest (“I Speak for Global Geoparks”), an educational quiz (“Geopark Science Challenge”), a livestream (“Geopark Connect”), a photography tour (“Beautiful Earth Memory”), a campus science lecture (“Global Geoparks on Campus”), and Earth Day checkin activities. Together, they built a crossregional and international platform for geological heritage protection and science outreach.

At the first stop – Chang’an No. 3 Primary School – over 400 students and teachers took part in a lively science event. A student representative read an Earth Day pledge, calling on everyone to protect nature. In a fun, engaging lecture titled “The Earth’s Plate ‘Games’ and Qinling Zhongnanshan Global Geopark,” students explored the geological wonders of the Qinling orogenic belt. A quiz session sparked enthusiastic responses, and winners received geopark-themed gifts. The event ended with the whole audience chanting, “Protect Beautiful China – start with me,” embedding the conservation message in young hearts.

　As a “natural museum” of global geological evolution and a nationallevel science base, Qinling Zhongnanshan Global Geopark is a vital platform for geoscience education. This Earth Day event marks a key step in its commitment to ecological civilization. Going forward, the geopark will continue to use online games, offline activities, science talks, and sister geopark collaborations to bring geoscience into communities, schools, and digital spaces – making earth knowledge part of daily life and fostering a strong culture of environmental protection.

　　Looking ahead, Qinling Zhongnanshan Global Geopark will keep innovating its science outreach methods, promote the philosophy of “respecting, protecting, and nurturing the Qinling Mountains,” and rally collective action from society to contribute to a modern China where people and nature coexist in harmony.
