Recently, Xi’an launched its practical teaching series of the “Grand Ideological and Political Course,” with the inaugural session held at the Qinling Zhongnanshan Global Geopark. The program invites young participants to explore geological wonders and engage with ecological narratives, moving traditional ideological education beyond the classroom and into nature—sowing the seeds of ecological civilization amid the mountains and rivers.

Distinct from conventional theoretical instruction, this series features a “walking classroom” approach, integrating the geopark’s geological marvels and ecological resources with ideological education across five progressive episodes. Each episode weaves together themes of geological exploration, ecological responsibility, and the commitment of local villagers and youth, offering a vivid and meaningful learning experience.

In the first session, students followed mountain trails through Cuihuashan’s dramatic landslide terrain. Guided by geology experts, they observed unique formations such as residual peaks, fault cliffs, barrier lakes, and rock debris, gaining insight into the scientific value and natural allure of the Qinling Zhongnanshan Global Geopark—a veritable “natural museum” of geological and ecological significance.

The course also emphasized hands-on ecological stewardship. Students took on roles as “environmental health inspectors,” conducting tree health assessments, water quality monitoring, and waste cleanup. Through these activities, they came to understand the importance of protecting the Qinling mountains, while stories of local villagers’ enduring dedication to conservation highlighted that ecological protection is a daily responsibility.

As the cultural root of Chinese civilization and a vital ecological barrier, the Qinling range represents a legacy for young people to inherit and uphold. Through this immersive “Grand Ideological and Political Course,” students deepened their sense of national pride and responsibility. Moving forward, they are expected to carry the seeds of ecological civilization nurtured during this experience into their daily lives—contributing, with youthful resolve, to the preservation of Qinling’s enduring green landscapes.
