The final Competition of the 2nd Xi’an Youth Volunteer Service came to an end at the end of November 2024. According to the requirements of the “Notice on Carrying out the 2nd Youth Volunteer Service Competition in Xi’an” and the “Notice on Doing a Good Job in the Final Evaluation of the 2nd Youth Volunteer Service Competition in Xi’an” and after fierce competition, Qinling Zhongnanshan Global Geopark Cuihuashan Science Popularization Service won a bronze award.
Taking advantages of the rich geological relics and promoting the spirit of the volunteer service of “dedication, friendship, mutual assistance, and progress”, Cuihuashan, the core team of Qinling Zhongnanshan Global Geopark, has established a volunteer team with geology as the foundation and science popularization as the medium, and carried out the “entering campus, entering community, and entering enterprise” volunteer service project.
Looking back at the achievements of the “Three Entering” science popularization, it is thanks to the excellent service system construction and team building capacity.
Firstly, guided by the principles of environmental protection and geological disaster prevention in the Qinling mountains, the construction of a comprehensive volunteer service system focuses on continuously enriching scientific research, serving the public, innovating cooperation, and enhancing international exchange. The geopark science popularization project has clear objects and content, and aims to improve the effectiveness of science popularization. The science popularization volunteer service aims to enable the public to learn about geological relics, explore the causes of landforms, and think about scientific phenomena, to understand and recognize the scientific value of the Qinling Mountains and to attract the public to visit Qinling Zhongnanshan Global Geopark.
Secondly, the management of volunteer service team is led by party members and cadres, with active participation from employees. With the work pattern of “unified leadership, division of labor and responsibility, internal and external collaboration, and top-down linkage”, the team is constantly growing and improving. The core volunteer team has 30 people, 22 of whom are tour guides and the other 8 are geological science popularization experts, and 22 people with bachelor’s degrees or above. The volunteer team applies the policy of dynamic management throughout the year and credits reward to ensure the long-term development of science popularization volunteer service.
Adhering to the service concept of “based in Qinling, reaching out to the public, deepening science popularization, and serving society”, the geopark volunteer service team provides geological science popularization lectures to social groups, spreads the concept of ecological civilization construction and makes the concept of protecting Qinling more deeply rooted in people’s hearts.
